Massage Therapy at Advanced Healthcare Associates

person receiving a back massageMention massage and thoughts of a pampering spa treatment may come to mind. While massage certainly is relaxing, it can do so much more! At our Wheaton practice, we feature an array of massage types customized to meet the needs of each patient.

When a person comes in with back, neck, hip or foot pain, there’s always muscular involvement. As we diagnose where the pain originates, there are opportunities to address the following issues: musculature, joint, strength flexibility, and more!

Addressing the Muscular Issue

Massage in our office will focus on the muscular issue. Over time we find that there’s compensation throughout the body. Let’s say someone comes in with hip pain; the hip is not usually the origination of the pain. Many times, it’s the lower back that’s had trauma and has compensated over years and years!

We as chiropractors get the lower back into alignment where there’s been musculature that has compensated over time.
- Dr. Susie Warden

We have different disciplines: chiropractic, massage, and physical therapy that all work together to address all of these issues that cause problems.

The massage is going to address the musculature issue of the muscles that have shortened over time. Short muscles can’t be strong. Over time, these muscles get weak and eventually, they can cause pain. Massage at our office addresses the issues of these shortened muscles and their lack of ability to do what they’re supposed to do over time.

Providing a Multipronged Approach

If someone goes to just a massage therapist, they feel better, but it’s not lasting. That’s the same with chiropractic and physical therapy. So if we can put the three together, we can address the body as a whole. The best part is, is that when a person has pain that is diagnosed, many insurance companies will pay for massage and rehabilitation.

If we can prove the strength and flexibility issues that have been lost, then a lot of insurance companies will pay for the myofascial massage part of it. When insurance pays for it, you can get healthy along the way and address the actual cause of the problem, it’s a win-win for everybody!

Patients also appreciate that they don’t have to pay as much out of pocket with our approach.
